Progressive Insurance Co. is another Ohio auto insurance company headquartered in the buckeye state. Started in 1937 by two enterprising men, Progressive is one of largest auto insurers in the country. This Mayfield Village based powerhouse has expanded its product offerings to include motorcycles, boats and recreational vehicles. They also insure trucks and other vehicles owned by businesses. Although they offer their products direct to consumers, they also sell through more than 30,000 independent agencies in the country, making Progressive Insurance the best represented insurer in the country! In 2010 they were ranked number 161 on the Fortune 500 list.
Progressive Insurance Co., is a forward-thinking insurer as evidenced by the fact that they were first to sell an auto insurance policy over the internet. In addition, they hold some fundemental patents on an auto program known in the industry as “pay as you drive”. Basically, drivers permit the insurance company to record driving information such as speed, when the car is being driven, braking and cornering habits. Progressive calls their plan ‘Snapshot’, and for drivers who don’t drive a lot, and drive during safer times, they can save money on their auto insurance premiums. A device the size of a garage door opener is installed in the owners car for 30 days, after which they’ll determine if the insured is eligible for a premium discount.
Once known as a high risk insurer, Progressive Insurance actually has a broad appetite, and will offer a premium quote for drivers with tickets and accidents, as well as those that have a “clean” driving record. Like most insurers, your Ohio insurance score is taken into consideration when determining the premium.
Progressive is well known in Ohio and beyond. The Cleveland Indians play their home baseball games at Progressive Field. Flo, the fun loving cashier at an insurance store, is a popular Halloween character this year.
